Turkish Journalist Celal Kemal Balkar Seeks Meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte Honoring Ambassador Galip Balkar’s legacy and strengthening Turkey-NATO dialogue

Brussels – Turkish journalist and writer Celal Kemal Balkar has formally requested a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during his planned visit to Brussels, where he is invited by the Turkish Delegation to NATO.

In his message to Secretary General Rutte, Balkar highlighted the contributions of his late uncle, Ambassador Galip Balkar, who served as Turkey’s Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO between 1977 and 1981 and played a key role in advancing Turkey’s position within the Alliance.

“This meeting would serve both as a tribute to the historical memory of Turkey-NATO relations and as a meaningful dialogue for the future,” Balkar said.

Celal Kemal Balkar expressed his desire to visit NATO Headquarters and discuss the Alliance’s present vision directly with its leadership, emphasizing the symbolic and historical significance of such an encounter.

The request, he added, aims to bridge past diplomatic achievements with future cooperation between Turkey and NATO – reaffirming the deep-rooted partnership that has defined their relationship for more than seven decades.
